Guitarist Rolf Vegdahl and dobroist Mike Lundstrom have performed their eclectic mix of blues, swing, folk, Celtic music and jazz at Northwest music festivals and concert venues for almost a decade. However, they're best known for their adaptations of traditional hymns for steel-stringed acoustic guitar and dobro (resophonic guitar).

The duo released Christmas Gifts, their CD of traditional Christmas hymns and carols in 2001. Although some came straight from the hymnal, many of the arrangements on Christmas Gifts demonstrated a heavy influence of country blues, swing, jazz, and rock ‘n’ roll. With Hymnody, Rolf and Mike have continued along the same vein. Although they tried, and were unable to find a hymn that worked as a tango, they were able to conjure up impressions of country blues, swing, and jazz in the Hymnody repertoire.

Hymnody's nineteen pieces were recorded by recording engineer Jim Allyn at Three Sisters Studio in Manson.
